Rapinoe returned to the United States in 2011 after playing in a couple of games with Sydney Football Club FC, the Australian W-League. Her next club was Seattle Washington Sounders Women. They are now they are the Sound FC. The Sound FC was located in France during in 2013 for the season. She then joined the Seattle Reign FC now OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League NWSL created after the WPS broke up. Rapinoe was one of their most prolific scorers and was later promoted to captain. Her next Olympics was in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, in the year 2016. At Rio she was a part of the U.S. team was eliminated in the quarterfinals. Her participation at this year's FIFA Women's World Cup began in the year 2011. Her contribution to the tournament helped the U.S. team win consecutive Women's World Cup championships in 2015 and 2019. In 2018, she was named cocaptain. Rapinoe has was a goal scorer for United States in the 4-3 victory over Australia at the Olympics bronze medal match in Tokyo in 2020 because of the COVID-19 epidemic which Japan was forced to postpone to 2021 due to the effects of the pandemic took home the gold medal in Tokyo in 2016.
